Meanwhile, representatives of the Bucharest Stock Exchange said that most its projects are on hold, waiting for either approvals from the National Securities Commission (CNVM) or new discussions with the Stock Exchange’s Board of Directors.

Unlike the domestic stock market, the Polish one was intensively helped by the state to develop, with the privatization of some of the largest companies being made on the stock market. According to officials of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the Polish government is preparing nearly 1,000 companies for privatization.

“Our goal is to become a regional hub for both stock and investors in Central and Eastern Europe, considering we are already actively competing with the largest European players,” said Bartosz Swidwinski, Senior Specialist of the Business Network department of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, during the “Brokerage Day” press conference, organized by the KBC Securities brokerage firm in partnership with the Polish Stock Exchange.

The market capitalization of Polish companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange nears €90 billion, while the value of Romanian companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange amounts to some €12 bln.
