PSD: Thirty minutes after Basescu accepts the removal of Nica, we will quit the government

“This crisis can be unblocked only by President Traian Basescu: he either rejects the request of removal from office as unfounded, or he accepts it. Once the request of removal from office is signed, PSD ministers have made a firm decision: they will resign in 30 minutes,” Nica said.

This statement comes after the President said Tuesday that the ruling parties must find solutions, and provided them with two directions for discussion: an independent minister or a member of the opposition.

PSD’s leader, Mircea Geoana, said that the absence of PSD ministers at the meetings that took place Tuesday night and Wednesday morning with their coalition partners is justified because “we have nothing more to discuss.”

“We believe the crisis is just starting, for lack of dialogue. This is why, in our opinion, it is Mr. Geoana and PSD that generated the crisis,” PDL’s Vice President, Adriean Videanu, said.

Catalin Pauna, the representative of the World Bank in Romania, said that the loan agreements are not endangered by the local political context, as long as the government complies with decisions agreed upon with the monetary institutions. “The political fever before the elections is endemic for both Romania and other states, but as long as the government goes ahead with reforms and meets the measures set with the international institutions, there will be no problems,” Pauna told Business Standard.
