The lobbyist profession: with or without qualification courses?

Officials of professional associations and chambers of commerce have already drafted a set of proposals for changing the draft law regarding the regulation of this activity, after it was launched in public debate last week by the Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade and the Business Environment.

“The law must be rewritten, because the form of the draft is overly bureaucratic and wants to regulate too much compared to other European countries. We agree that the lobby activity requires a minimum regulation, declaring that the lobbyist is good, to distinguish between interest groups and lobbyists,” the Secretary General of the Association of Romanian Businesspeople (AOAR), Cristian Parvan, told Business Standard.

“Registering in a register is important, because therein you state the purpose, the objective, who you represent, costs, and revenues. The law also has a positive side, because it takes this activity in out of a darker area, frequently but unjustly associated with the traffic of influence and interest groups,” Laura Florea, Managing Partner of the Point Public Affairs lobby company, said.
