At this time, Wolf Theiss’ local branch is left with 18 attorneys, after this second wave of layoffs, following the first such move three months ago. This is the first major negative decision in connection with human resources by a large local legal firm, and similarly a sign in contradiction with announcements made by such companies that they will not resort to layoffs.
The attorneys laid off by Wolf Theiss include Cristian Vlaicu, Adina Cojoc (banking consultancy), both partners, Anda Moldovan (commercial law), Cristian Enache (litigation), Veronica Cristea Nanu (human resources), Honorius Circa, and Georgiana Serban (real estate). Diana Pescar, who handled the firm’s marketing, was also laid off. Ligia Popescu is due to take over the management of the litigation department.
According to the same sources, the salaries of of the remaining lawyers have been brought back to the original level prior to the 10 percent reduction in summer. Wolf Theiss representatives could not be contacted for comment prior to the closing of the print edition.
The local legal market is dominated by Romanian firms. Wolf Theiss’ main competitor is the regional Schoenherr firm.
